PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY
BELT SLIPPAGE Mower overloading, material too Reduce tractor ground speed but
tall or heavy maintain full PTO rpm. Cut material
twice, one high pass and then mow
at desired height. Cut a partial swath.
Oil on belts from over lubrication Be careful not to over lubricate.
Clean lubricant from belt and pulleys
with clean rag. Replace oil soaked
belts.
Belts hung up or rubbing Check belts for free travel in pulleys
and belt guides. Check under mower
and around blade spindle shafts for
wire, rags, or other foreign material.
Clean all material from under mower.
FRAYED EDGES ON COVER Belt misaligned or belt rubbing Re-align belt or guide. Be sure belt
guide. doesn't rub any other part while running.
Pulley misalignment Inspect to ensure belt is running in
center of backside idler. Shim idler
as necessary to align.
BELT ROLLOVER Pulley misalignment Re-align
Damaged belts Replace belts.*
Foreign object in pulley grooves Inspect all pulley grooves for rust,
paint or weld spots and remove.
Worn pulley groove Replace pulley
DAMAGED BELT Rollover, high shock loads or Replace belts.*
installation damage
BELT BREAKAGE High shock loads Avoid abusive mowing. Avoid hitting
the ground or large obstructions.
Belt came off drive Check drive alignment for foreign
material in grooves. Ensure proper
tension. Avoid hitting solid objects
or ground.
*Check broken belt for damage by laying it flat on floor. If belt does not lie flat (has humps or twists), which
indicated broken or stretched cords, it must be replaced.
